CVBC Isaiah 49:1-13
This sermon on Isaiah 49 invites us into one of the most profound mysteries of Advent: the servant who calls all creation to listen, yet willingly walks a road of suffering. We discover that this servant—Jesus Christ—was named and called even from the womb, his mission established before time began. What strikes us most powerfully is the dual nature of his authority: he commands the attention of coastlands and distant peoples, yet his power manifests not through force but through words that cut like a sharp sword and pierce like a polished arrow. The servant knew the cost and came anyway, driven by love and the joy set before him. In this Advent season, we're called to fix our eyes on this suffering servant who brings eternal Jubilee—freedom from bondage, cancellation of debts, and provision without end. The darkness of this world no longer has authority over us because the light has come and cannot be quenched.
